Serious Games for the internal communication: the SKY Italy case study
SKY Italy had the necessity to inform its 4.000 employees, working in different offices scattered across Italy, about the introduction of an innovative computerized way of making requests and manage vacation and work permits.
Based on the SAP technology, this brand-new formula shortens the process and time of asking for holidays.
Willing to avoid traditional ways of communication as e-mails, or paper circulars, SKY applied to imaginary for the creation of two different Serious Games. These simulations are aimed at staff who need to ask for vacations, and managers who have to authorize them, explaining how the use of a new computerized procedure is beneficial: saving time and reducing the ecological impact by avoiding the use of paper.
imaginary has created and developed two Serious Games:
- The first one, for ‘applicants’ (the majority of the SKY employees), summarises the advantages of this new procedure and gives the user the opportunity to choose between more than one option (of which just one of them correct) whenever they want to ask for vacations or permits. The user identifies themselves with a SKY employee who, with the help of a colleague, after having asked for holidays and having learned a few tips about the new procedure, might want to see if their application has been carried out. Again, more options are given, but just one of them is the right one. To each answer there is immediate feedback, given by a colleague, who becomes a learning companion and who gives clues and suggestions to the user about the use of the new EES ( Employees Self-Service ).
- The second Game appeals to the ‘authority’ (those who give approvals to requests). This part shows the user how easy and fast it is, to give approval to requests of vacation or permits. The user still identifies themselves with a SKY employee, but this time they have the facility to give approval to the requests. The user, assisted by a colleague, can see how the new process is handled easier and faster by these procedures.
Both Serious Games are enriched by ‘speaking’: speech bubbles and feedback are sent together with audio, leading to a deeper and more realistic use of both applications.
SKY asked imaginary to create tutorials for these two Serious Games for EES.
The user leads the game to new situations of detail and understanding in the use of this tool. It is targeted to give SKY assistants a much more accurate impression of using a new computerized procedure.
